We have several
important news items to share with you about the 44th

Awards Dinner & Field Trips Reminder If you plan to attend the CFCS Awards Dinner or one of our four exciting field trips, please pre-register by the end of the day on July 1, 2008 so that we can give the catering staff for these events as close an estimate as possible for the number of people expected to attend. To review the field trip options, visit the CFCS website at http://cfcs.eea.uprm.edu/44th_Meeting/Field_Trips.htm. Attendance on the field trips is limited, so seats on the bus are available on a first-come, first-served basis for these excursions. The Awards Dinner requires an extra registration fee of $60.00 and the field trips require an extra registration fee of $50.00 (register for only 1 field trip per person as they are full-day trips). Registration for these events is also available on site. 2. CFCS Main Hotel Nearing Capacity: Overflow Hotel Information We have been told that the Miami Beach Resort and Spa is nearing capacity. If you try to reserve a room and are told that the hotel is full, please use the information below to contact the official overflow hotel, which has negotiated a special room rate for CFCS participants. We have set up an overflow room block for the University of Florida-Caribbean Food Crop Society in the Alexander Hotel in Miami Beach at the exclusive rate of $159.00 (based upon availability). The special rate of $159.00 is not for an ordinary room, but for a suite that is fully equipped with kitchen, living room, dining room, master bedroom, convertible room (with two twin beds), two full bathrooms, and balconies with views of Miami Beach and the Intra-coastal Waterway. When contacting the hotel, under “Group Name” be sure to specify you are with the Caribbean Food Crop Society. The Alexander is four (4) blocks north of the Miami Beach Resort. Pre-Registration Deadline Reminder: July 1, 2008 for Online Registration (On-Site Registration Is Available) We urge you to pre-register and pay online before the July 1, 2008 deadline, which will save you money by qualifying you for free airport transportation to and from the Miami International Airport, will allow you a much faster check-in time at the meeting’s registration desk, and will give us more accurate “head counts” for planning various catered events. On-Site registration will be available, but waiting times at the meeting registration area will be substantially longer. We hope you’ll be able to take advantage of the pre-registration and pre-payment opportunity for the 44th Annual CFCS Meeting. 4. Pre-Registration Incentive Reminder: Free Transportation Offer to & from Miami Airport Ends Tomorrow (July 1, 2008) Because online pre-registration closes July 1, 2008, you will have only today and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 1, 2008, to take advantage of the free transportation offer to and from the Miami International Airport. If we receive payment for your pre-registration by 5:00 pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time, Tuesday, July 1, 2008, you will qualify for the free airport transportation offer. To take advantage of this offer, register and pay online at the CFCS website at http://cfcs.eea.uprm.edu/44th_Meeting/2008_Registration.htm. For participants unable to take advantage of pre-registration, SuperShuttle has agreed to provide CFCS participants with a coupon for $2.00 off the shuttle fare. All abstracts are listed in session order and are divided into oral presentations and poster presentations.
