update! 44th Annual Caribbean Food Crops Society Meeting “Repositioning Caribbean Agriculture: Challenges & Opportunities for Sustainability” July 13-17, 2008 Miami, Florida, USA ***contact information for principal program organizers can be found at the end of this message*** Greetings: If you are making plans to travel to Miami, Florida for the 44th Annual Caribbean Food Crops Society (CFCS) Meeting scheduled for July 13-17, 2008 and plan to stay at the Miami Beach Resort and Spa, the deadline to reserve rooms in the CFCS block held for this meeting is June 12, 2008. We understand that some participants may not know until very close to the conference whether or not they will have funding to attend, but if your travel plans are firm, be sure to contact the hotel to reserve your room. If the online registration system gives you a message that the block is full, it may simply be that a certain day’s rooms held in the block have been filled. There are currently still rooms available outside the block of rooms held for CFCS and you can currently reserve them at the conference price. You must call the hotel directly, however, to reserve a room if the date you want to arrive on has already been filled for the rooms held in the block. The block of rooms for July 12th has been filled, for example, so you won’t be able to reserve a room using the website if you plan to arrive on the 12th. The good news is that rooms are still available on July 12th. You just need call the hotel directly at 1-866-765-9090 to make your reservations. The CFCS meeting is listed under “University of Florida (or UF)-Caribbean Food Crop Society.” Don’t wait too long to make your reservations, however, since CFCS cannot guarantee that rooms will continue to be available either inside or outside the block if you wait until the last minute to reserve a room. About CFCS: The CFCS organization attracts experts from a variety of disciplines, including horticulture, agricultural and biological engineering, marine science, natural resources, and animal science among other areas that pertain to agriculture and food resources in the greater Caribbean basin. A very exciting, engaging, and timely program has been planned. We invite your attendance and ask you to share this message with faculty, graduate students, and others whom we know will be interested in participating. Scholarships for students are available on a limited basis. ********************************************************************************************* For more information about the CFCS meeting, please contact Marti Dettman-Kruse, Linda Evans, or Mark Trujillo.
